Option 1
Option 2 have plenty of light
Option 3 think outside the box
According to Wikipedia Stop motion is an animated filmmaking technique in which objects are physically manipulated in small increments between individually photographed frames so that they will appear to exhibit independent motion or change when the series of frames is played back.
This isn’t the most cinematic thing ever shot but you get the idea
As far as any stop motion project goes – some of the elements involved are: Planning, Communication and Collaboration.
When I mention stop motion or attempting stop motion in the classroom, I’m greeted straight away with: “I haven’t got the equipment”; “I don’t know what to create” OR “I wouldn’t know where to start”.
Well, in this blog post I’m going to remove some of those myths and point you in the right direction.
Reason 1 for not doing stop motion.
I need Loads of equipment
Nobody NEEDs one of these.
You don’t !!! A phone OR iPad and maybe some books to steady the device, the orange video above was shot by using a phone and my elbow resting on the table at the same angle as I took each image. My advice is use what you have to hand and try and keep the camera/device steady.
This is a great example of using what you have to hand, think outside the box…… USE the Box
After capturing the images, I then imported the images into iMovie giving them .3 of a second between each one and pressed play. The dodgy sound effects were added by me after the fact. IF you don’t have iMovie, Google Photos has a feature were you can create an animation, this will give you the same result.
There are some software/apps you can download, personally I use “STOP MOTION” from the App Stores – it’s free (the important bits are FREE) and it’s cross-platform. (iOS or Google Play)
Reason 2 for NOT doing it .
I don’t know what to do
ANYTHING ……. stop motion can be applied to anything – well almost anything – it’s ideally used for telling a story or passing on a message to your audience. The next time you’re building something – point your phone at the target in frame and press Record. (Make sure your camera is set to Time-Lapse before pressing Record. Then start your build) You’ll be happy with the result, I promise.
Reason 3 for not doing stop motion
I don’t know where to start
Hello World, record yourself writing “Hello World” with each letter a photo, Write ‘H’ take a photo OR use the App to take a photo, Write ‘E’ take a photo OR use the App to take a photo and so on.
Repeat the above but this time put a pencil in the shot, and move it each time you take a photo or use the app to take a photo.
Attempt 1 with Hassan
Be patient, have fun and let us know how you get on!
